Black Study and Communist Affect

All Incomplete is a continuation of Stefano Harney and Fred Moten’s dialogue in The Undercommons: Fugitive Planning Black Study. This earlier book has cult status what identifiably Aotearoa’s under-commons (or Arcia Tecun calls Te Moana Nui Kiwa ‘the undercurrents’). With Incomplete, Moten move beyond the university, creating lexicon for fugitive thought—fugitive being opposite settling. Their propositions thought sociality are important to think with through, especially settler-colonial context like Aotearoa New Zealand. I follow their notion ‘black study’ as it develops through arguing that black study constitutes mode Jackie Wang ‘communist affect’—a being-for-others reveals kind ‘already-existing communism’ present. then look how some ideas introduced by Undercommons have been taken up consider contributions could make our own context.
